Looking for artistic and exotic nursery decor for your baby or kid’s room? Rikshaw Design may be the inspiration you have been seeking. Founded and designed by native-Virginian Catherine Fitzsimmons, Rikshaw Design makes gorgeous hand block print crib bedding for the bohemian baby.
What is hand block printing you ask? Hand block printing is one of the most artistic types of textile printing made famous in India. First, a design is cut into a block. To print the design on the fabric, the printer then applies color to the block and presses it into the fabric.
Lucky for us, Fitzsimmons was inspired by the artistry of this craft, its compelling color combinations, and charming imperfections during her travels to India. She created Rikshaw Design in 2008, launching with bohemian baby bedding and accessories.
The Rikshaw Design collection includes crib sets, pillows, and accessories, all hand block-printed on soft Indian cotton voile. You can easily mix and match with coordinating prints, florals, stripes and motifs.
Fitzsimmons’ colors and patterns are almost too pretty to be on your bedding (notice we said “almost”). We have chosen to feature the Udaipur set. Udaipur is an Indian city with many palaces, domes and beautiful lakes. This sunny yellow and orange crib set includes a bumper, a quilt, and bedskirt. The bumper is a box-style with french knots and contrast ties and piping. The quilt has a giraffe pattern on one side and diamond florals on the other. All products are lined, 100% cotton voile, machine washable and, of course, made in India.
Other Rikshaw Design collections showcase blues, greens, and pinks so you are bound to find a delightful set that works for your baby’s room.
