Blue and green are beautiful color combinations for decorating a baby nursery. Whether you go modern or classic, boy or girl, it’s hard to go wrong as seen with these inspiring blue and green nurseries featured by Better Homes and Gardens.

Take this nursery of cozy color combo of periwinkle blue and sage green accented with a white crib and other neutral colored accents – like the natural straw colored storage baskets. It emenates serenity and calm. The two toned painted blue walls provide delightful visual interest along with vintage-looking wall art. This is a lovely color scheme for a gender neutral nursery that can be embellished with more boy or girl accents once baby is born.

We like the colors of this soft aqua blue and celery green baby girl nursery. The tree wall decals (or wall stencils) with flowing branches cleverly create a natural canopy for the crib. The striking white furniture and aqua blue tones are warmed up with the celery green and a touch of mocha brown. Notice the use of throw pillows to bring that extra personality and visual texture to the baby girl’s room? Throw pillows are an easy and relatively inexpensive way to decorate your nursery that should not be overlooked.

For a very modern blue and green nursery, consider a color palette of light aqua blue, teal green, and light celery green made sharper with chocolate brown. The wall grid was painted on a white wall using one inch painter’s tape. The paint colors are Cachepot Green, Tahitian Teal, Azul, Swimming Pool, and Sweet Pea from the Casual Colors wall paint collection at Wal-Mart. The delightful ceiling mobile was handmade by the owners with plywood and hung at various lengths from the ceiling. Again, it’s fun to see the pop of the throw pillow with a starburst of celery green. Such great inspiration for a modern baby boy’s room!

Star Themed Kids Wallpaper from Candice Olson

We like a star theme for a boy’s nursery because it can easily grow with your little one.  In the nursery years, you can keep it soft and cozy with light blue, white, and yellow.  In the toddler years, bring in some navy blue as well as the planets to bring in an educational bent.

If you’re looking for star themed baby decor ideas, check out this star themed baby bedding from Kids Line – such a pretty color combination for your little boy’s nursery!  Pale blue, chocolate brown, & white stars mixed with polka dots bring a look that is both stylish and playful. We are fond of the pale blue wall paint and the star wall décor that can be done with star wall decals or painted star wall stencils.

For a bit more subtlety, stick with solid colors or neutral patterns such as polka dots and stripes when choosing bedding. Then, seek cute room décor to provide the accents. We think this blue and white star themed lamp from Poshtots is cute for a nightstand or dresser in your nursery.  And, this white moon and star chandelier or ceiling medallion is a gorgeous way to add architectural detail to your room. The medallion comes with or without a hole for a chandelier and comes in several colors to match your baby room decor.

If you’re already thinking ahead to the toddler years, we adore this star wallpaper from interior designer Candice Olson and how the darker wallpaper was used to create a night sky on this boy’s ceiling. Notice how the reflection in the mirror makes it feel as if you are staring through the look hole of a spaceship. Clever, cute, and stunning!

When decorating a kid’s room, we often focus on color as a way to bring the room to life.  Not a bad thing, but let’s not miss out on the vibrancy decorating with texture can bring to a baby nursery or child’s room. Not only does texture bring that extra piece of visual dimension to your baby room decor, but it can be a fun and educational way to help your baby explore her world.

We love this textured pink bedding with fabric roses and ruffles from Land of Nod. The matching textured pillow and curtainsare used creatively and beautifully. It’s amazing how impactful a ruffle or two can be in bringing a whole new dimension to the fabrics and the room.

If you can’t find bedding, try throw pillows. Remember this gorgeous handmade textured throw pillow by Decorati Designer Studio Raynaud Interiors? It is the highlight of the bedding with its powerful punch.

Another easy way to add texture is through floor rugs. Think soft and fluffy like this pale blue shag rug.  A beautiful color with a texture that pleases the eye and the little toes that walk across it. These rugs are not hard to find and come in soft colors like white, pink, and blue.  For the eco-friendly, green nursery consider going au natural with sisal and sea grass floor rugs. Great if you are seeking a neutral color, these rugs tend to be kind on the wallet.

Finally, these vinyl poufs from Zid Zid kids are cute, cuddly, and have a bit of a shine, another way to add visual texture to your child’s room.

Modern Green Bird Wall Decor for a Gender Neutral Nursery

Modern Green Bird Wall Decor for a Gender Neutral Nursery

Though St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, we are still seeing green. And, that we should! Green is the most popular color for decorating a nursery. It is versatile, timeless, and a reminder of how powerful one of the most common colors in nature is in bringing beauty to interior decorating. If you are going modern with your nursery, seek shades of green that have a bit of a yellow tint as today’s modern nursery décor reflects citrus shades not unlike these green children’s wall décor pieces from New Jersey-based BeBe Chic. These wall décor pieces will not only coordinate with your modern-colored green baby nursery, but are bursting with personality.

For example, this “Blossom of Love” green tree wall hanging is a lovely, modern 20” wall canvas giclee print with gorgeous varying shades of green used for the leaves and scene. We love how the hearts are interpreted as flowers that colorfully decorate the tree and the ground like fallen rose petals – a beautiful wall hanging for your little girl’s room.

For your baby boy’s green nursery , use this green frog themed wall hanging to embellish or to simply add a touch of fun to his room. The cute green frog sits on a lily pad surrounded by pretty stripes and polka dots in soft yellow, pale blue, and white. As a side note, we love the three-pronged color palette of citrus green, pale blue, and light yellow for a baby boy’s room.

Finally, for a modern, gender neutral green nursery, consider green bird themed wall art.  These precious green chics are surrounded by modern illustrated flowers on a wall canvas that would look contemporary and stylish in a baby boy’s or girl’s room.

These green wall décor pieces from Bebe Chic are sold at several baby retailers online including Tresstina. Bebe Chic also has stylish kids décor and baby gear such as bedding, lamps, and stroller liners.

Decorating a nursery for boy and girl twins requires a bit more creativity than usual to ensure you end up with a functional and beautiful space. Let’s focus on the functional stuff first.

Multi-gender or not, each child needs a crib. There are many options so you should be able to find a style that fits your budget. You will only need one changing table, but you will find it invaluable to have two adult seating options in the event of concurrent late night feedings. Gliders can be large so try to find ones that are on the smaller side. And, don’t forget a diaper genie and laundry bag.

Organization is also important as it can get chaotic as you scurry about to calm two highly vocal little ones. Separate items in closets well using storage bins and drawer organizers to keep things tidy.  This closet for twins (published by Better Homes & Gardens) designed for the Baltimore Symphony Decorators’ Show House by Anne Pamfilis is a perfect example. Note the use of shelves to create more usable storage space.

Now, on to the fun part – decorating a beautiful baby room for your twins.

With regard to décor, there are many ways to be creative. You can keep it gender neutral for your boy and a girl like Jane Lockhart did decorating a boy and girl twin nursery for HGTV. Using soft yellow and green and a navy blue for pop, she created a beautifully modern twins room.  We love the yellow painted ceiling and the neutral colored cribs and hard wood floor which add warmth. And, personalizing the window valences with stencils is a nice touch.

Speaking of personalization, you can use one primary decorating color and then use a different color as a differentiating accent for each child. Well coordinated with the closet, designer Anne Pamfilis designed these twins’ nursery in yellow and then used blue and pink accents to personalize the area for each baby.  This way, she was able to give each child a look and feel of his and her own, yet maintain cohesiveness in the design of the room.

Another décor idea for multi-gender twins’ rooms is to use patterns to add visual differentiation. Try polka dots for your baby girl and stripes for your baby boy in coordinating gender neutral colors like green and yellow.  Circles and squares would work equally well.  Another easy solve is to find cute bedding in different colors, but that use same pattern like this pink/chocolate brown and blue/chocolate brown baby bedding set by Trend Lab.
