Spring is here and our tulips are just starting awake from their winter slumber. Such a nice reminder of the beauty tulips bring when decorating a home!  Even better, tulips bring lovely color to a baby girl’s nursery. Go with classic colors like pink and purple or try more modern with yellow and orange.

We found some fabulous options for your tulip themed nursery.

Consider our tulip wall decals that can be personalized with your baby girl’s name. These tulip wall decals look like a garden and your baby’s name adds that personal touch.

See this tulip baby bedding set from popular baby home decor designer Dwell Studio. The pale pink and white lattice patterned crib sheet is just precious in combination with a reversible bumper adorned with bright and light pink tulips on one side and pink and white stripes on the other.

For the DIY mom, tulip wall stencils are a great option. There are thousands of tulip wall stencil patterns out there and a tulip design can be simple enough to make on your own. For more guidance, see these instructions on how to stencil a tulip garden in your child’s room. Paint a tulip row like this one at the base board or right above a chair rail.

For other cute tulip nursery décor, consider what you can do with lighting. This tulip themed table lamp from Land of Nod would look perfect on a table next to your glider. We love the woven basket flower pot look for a classically designed tulip themed nursery.

For a more modern look, this yellow tulip pendant light made of felt is fun. It comes in modern colored orange and dark green as well to add a unique touch to a modern tulip themed girl’s room.

A Few of the Most Inspiring Blue Nurseries We've Ever Seen

We are always impressed when we find a clever spin on a traditional theme or color in kid’s room decorating. So, we wanted to share these three inspiring blue nurseries from Rate My Space moms that are sure to knock your socks off, too. These super creative moms turned what could be traditional blue nurseries upside down, making them anything but traditional.

This glamorous, vintage “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” blue nursery was designed by “mnm” for her baby girl named Audrey, of course :) . She painted the walls in “Sea Breeze” by Valspar (matched by Sherwin Williams). And, she got her oh-so-glam look with a lot of smart shopping at Target and Amazon including her black and white baby bedding and sumptuous, white shag rug. Mnm painted the wall letters herself to give Audrey an elegant personality of her own. In her other photos, you’ll see very cool black and white damask printed curtains and a damask lamp, a vintage chandelier wall decal over her glider, and a to-die-for mirrored nightstand to hold knick-knacks.

For a more modern blue nursery, we love what “Chemegal” did in her baby boy’s room using a soft blue, bright orange, and brown color palette. Her blue paint is that gorgeous “Robin’s Egg” from Benjamin Moore. She had her custom white and orange giraffe crib bedding custom made by an Etsy seamstress as well as the large brown tree wall decal behind the crib. We love how well the orange is used to accent the room as it brings warmth and visual punch. The blue and brown do their job nicely bringing a calming and cooling feel. We also like the not-as-common vertical positioning of her wall letters.

Finally, if you’re up for creative wall painting, this classy looking, blue striped painted nursery is a show-stopper. Mom-to-Be “Altortolero” painted 2 inch wide white stripes with alternating 10.5 inch wide light blue (Behr Twilight Grey) and dark blue stripes (Behr Skyline Steel) to get this look. We love how the painted stripes and two-toned wall paint make the baby’s room feel like a beautifully wrapped present with a monogram wall decal “bow” on top. We also appreciate the rich, espresso colored furniture that adds an even classier feel and the modern touches like the brown and white Dwell throw.

We never get tired of looking at fun and playful wall decor for kids which is why we love looking at designs from Trendy Peas.

Founded by creative lead Patricia Cancado and business lead Raquel Kohler, these design-minded moms in Norfolk, VA who have known each other since childhood couldn’t find modern nursery wall décor to decorate their babies’ rooms at a price they liked. So after much searching, they decided to do it themselves starting Trendy Peas in an effort to bring us unique, contemporary baby décor style at an affordable price. Trendy Peas offers their design collection as wall prints, wall canvases, and wall decals as well as paper goods like baby announcements and stationery designed to please both parents and little ones.

Above are some highlights from their collection. Part of their safari line, this chic and contemporary “G is for Giraffe” safari themed wall print comes with coordinating “E is for elephant” and “D is for deer” wall prints. Their cleverly named “Animal Talk” category has a “hooting” owl or “tweeting” bird on a branch. And, their shapes collection has bright and vibrant geometric wall prints featuring circles and dots, triangles, and squares with which to decorate a cheerful gender neutral nursery.

They also have a new product line of beautiful fabric wall decals. This gorgeous large tree wall decal of modern design and modern eco-friendly materials is an abstract display with over-sized leaves, pretty green patterns, a striking gray trunk and a cute blue bird.  They also have a bird on a branch fabric wall decal.

Note that all of their wall art can be purchased as a wall canvas or a print. They also have a collection of wall prints that can be personalized with your child’s name.

For the dual design and cost-conscious mom, Trendy Peas is offering free shipping on orders over $50.

They do have nice baby bedding in modern and contemporary styles. But, we’re particularly fond of this toile baby bedding in soft blue & beige with cream accents for a baby boy’s shabby chic nursery. And, we love this pale pink and white rug with a delicate, lace design for a classic girl’s pink shabby chic nursery.

We have ogled over their collection of chandeliers many made of wrought iron and adorned with hanging crystals, flowers, and birds like this bird cage chandelier. They come in soft, romantic colors like antique white, champagne, and pale pink and would add the finishing touch to your shabby chic nursery.

Doodlefish also has wall art for girls and boys, many with personalization options, cribs, and a wide selection of fabrics if you’re seeking custom made bedding and decor.

Wallpaper for kids’ rooms has made a comeback in recent years as new generations of designers have improved upon both its functionality and its look. Now, you can find beautiful kids wallpaper with cool, modern designs and it’s much easier to apply.

FermLiving is one of those designers and has a line of modern, kid-themed wallpaper called WallSmart. WallSmart is a non-woven wallpaper designed for easier hanging. You apply the paste directly to the wall rather than working with a pre-pasted material. It is even washable to protect from sticky hands. Remember that in any wallpaper project, two sets of hands are a must!

We found some great themes for modern kid’s room decorating such as this animal themed wallpaper in bright green with elephants, giraffes, chickens, birds, and squirrels perfect for a playroom. This tree themed wallpaper in yellow, white, and brown called Dotty would be cute wall décor for a girl’s room or gender neutral nursery. We can envision it working well in a yellow nursery with touches of hot pink in a girl’s room or apple green in a boy’s room. Finally, this car themed wallpaper is fun and comes in dark aqua blue and white featuring cars and trucks of contemporary design and colors. It would be delightful in a modern boy’s nursery or a playroom.

Keep in mind that the vibrant prints in these and other wallpaper designs can overwhelm a room. Make sure you use bold printed wallpaper sparingly. For example, each of these patterns would look lovely on an accent wall. If not obvious, an accent wall is when you choose one wall in the room to highlight. It may be the wall behind the crib or the wall behind a large dresser.

Bold wallpaper prints also look nice above or below a chair rail. We like the idea of using these prints below the chair molding and then painting the upper half in bright, coordinating colors.

If you like these wallpaper designs, you can get matching throw pillows to complete your look.

If you live in a city where you tend to be short on space but long on ideas, check out this feature on Creative Kids’ Rooms in Time Out New York Kids (article by Lisa Freedman and Rory Halperin, photography by Dan Hallman).

Time Out New York Kids highlights 5 kids’ rooms in NYC all creatively embracing their urban surroundings. We found these designs inspiring and took away our own learnings on how to decorate an urban sanctuary for your child.

Accent the Architecture

One of the great things about living in a city is that you tend to have a lot of architectural elements with which to work. This four-story brownstone in Park Slope is a prime example. What’s clever is how the family used the dormant fireplace as a visual highlight in the room. The blue wall paint provides visual accent and the mantel serves as a decorative shelf for cute nick-knacks and wall letters. The blue wall paint makes the contrasting white paint used in the rest of the child’s room pop. And, we appreciate the use of orange to bring warmth to a cool blue and white color palette. Also, check out how creatively they designed the play space with buckets hanging from the wall to store art supplies. It makes you want to be a kid again.

Send in the Clowns

The modern décor that looks so great in the rest of your home may be a bit too cold for a child’s room.  We like how this family in the Upper West Side of Manhattan used giraffe wall decals, a hanging ceiling wall mobile, and bright-colored wooden toys to bring playfulness and fun to their boy’s modern furnished room. The white furniture and bedding maintains a modern aesthetic that can bring consistency to the rest of a modern decorated home. But, the playful design elements make the space child-friendly. We like how the giraffe wall decals are a neutral theme that can be used in a boy’s or girl’s room. Also note the use of a hanging wall shelf to add space and keep the modern feel.

Celebrate the Arts

Living in a city gives you a great excuse to be fashion forward with the artistry in your kid’s room. We love how this NYC family went all out and painted a nature themed wall mural with paint, painter’s tape, and an exacto knife to create the curvatures in the painted hills. The mural makes quite a powerful statement. We also appreciate how cleverly they designed their own 3D wall décor with child-like hanging bird houses and bird wall decals. The room goes even further to celebrate art by embracing color and mixing modern and classic motifs with the furnishings.
