We can’t help but be awe struck by this bright and cheery modern owl themed nursery designed for a baby boy by Decorati and Boston-based interior designer colorTHEORY.
Starting with a contemporary color palette of cool light aqua blue and medium apple green down to the wooden owl wall hanging, this baby boy’s room screams “look at me”, yet also manages to exude calm. Brilliant!
Aside from the colors, some other highlights of the nursery include the reasonably-priced Dwell Studio owl baby bedding we talked about a few months ago, a contemporary white crib, a chic green side table, and what looks to be an Eames rocker.
colorTHEORY shows us that if you’re short on space in your baby’s room, you can get by without a dresser. Be creative with shelving and coordinating storage bins to get comparable functionality and fun bursts of color to boot.
But, the star of the show is the darling hand-painted tree ceiling mural with nighttime stars punctuated by a modern chandelier. It adds the finishing touches to this serene owl themed baby room and the visual is so intricate, you may not even need a mobile to get your baby boy to sleep.

I just LOVE this nursery! I have similar taste and have the same blue rocker and Dwell bedding for my son’s room. What colors are on the walls? I would like to use them. Thanks!
Hi Jeannie,
We think it is lovely, too! We’re trying to find out the wall paint colors from the designers. We’ll keep you posted.

Hello,
The walls were painted in “Napa Vineyards” and
the doors & trim were painted in “Peacock Feathers”,
both by Benajamin Moore.
The nursery is actually mine and was designed by me for our twin boys. At our color consultation with the oh-so-fabulous colorTHEORY, I showed Brad the DwellStudio bedding I had chosen to be the foundation of the room. Since my husband and I have enjoyed many wonderful trips to Napa Valley, we were thrilled to learn that the color we loved most was called Napa Vineyards! From this bedding and paint selection, I chose the finishing touches: coordinating Flor carpet tiles, Ouef furniture for two, storage solutions (Elfa shelving and storage bins from the Container Store), custom sputnik chandelier, and owl clock from decoylab. The gifted Eames chair and green side table (sourced from local home furnishings store, Lekker) were repurposed from elsewhere in our home. Our boys are now 4 months old and they are loving it!
Thank You!
Cate – You did an amazing job! I have a four month old son as well and we are moving into a new house so I have the opportunity to “finish” the nursery. We have very similar furniture and bedding already so the paint colors are perfect! I also love the Flor Tiles and I am thinking of doing the same. I hope you are flattered (not annoyed) by me using some of your ideas. Do you happen to know the name of the tiles? There are so many choices and it can be difficult to determine color on the computer. The ceiling and chandelier are so beautiful but unfortunately, we will not be adding that to our room. Anyway, great job on the design!
Jeannie- thanks! The Flor tile colors are Toy Poodle Teal and Lime with a color of Elemental Stripe that they don’t seem to have anymore!? However, it seems that they do have some new stripes (You Only Live Twice) that weren’t available at the time with colors that might work, too. Good luck!
