We Ooh and Ah Over These Unique Baby Mobiles for Your Nursery

Lately baby mobiles have come back into vogue and there are so many unique takes that we wanted to share a few of our favorites that we think would look super cute with some of our most popular wall decals. However, be sure to keep the mobile well beyond baby’s reach as you do not want her to pull it down upon herself.

Baby Mobile for an Under the Sea Themed Nursery

We Under the Sea is a lovely theme as you can take it in many directions. Above is a more modern take on a baby mobile that incorporates an ocean themed nursery with a more modern bent. We love how the designer, JennaEBe13 on Etsy, used varying shades of blue to help create the sensation of the sea. To complete your themed nursery look, check out our Under the Sea wall decals. We have dolphins, octopus, fish, seaweed and more in a variety of colors and styles.

Baby Mobile for a Safari Themed Nursery

Baby Mobile for a Safari Themed Nursery

We would be remiss if we did not include a safari mobile for a classic jungle themed nursery, also from an Etsy designer. Designer CarrotFever aptly describes the mobile as inspired by simple Swedish design and her love for animals. A cute giraffe, monkey, zebra, lion, crocodile, and a tree with cute little falling leaves hang from cotton thread above your little one’s crib. Even better, her mobile animals are made from eco felt and stuffed firmly with premium poly fiber filling. We have some sweet jungle wall decals to go with this theme, too.

Baby Mobile for an Alligator Themed Nursery

Baby Mobile for an Alligator Themed Nursery

A modern take on the jungle theme is to choose just one animal. And, believe it or not, the alligator can be an awfully cute animal to design a nursery around. We like the uniqueness of this alligator baby mobile created by blogger Mrs. Meyers Musings. The lime green and navy blue color combo helps spice up traditional green. weeDECOR also has an alligator wall decal in a modern design aesthetic.

Finally, LovelySymphony on Etsy designs beautiful, whimsical hot air balloon baby mobile for a unique baby girl’s nursery and go nicely with our hot air balloon wall decals.

We go Bah-Bah over Sheep Nursery Décor

One of the sweetest classic themes in nursery décor is the quintessential little lamb. So classic. So perfect for your little one. We just couldn’t help taking notice of so many beautiful baby nurseries incorporating this theme!

Aside from being simple and sweet, we appreciate the gender and color neutrality the sheep design element brings to a baby’s room. Since most sheep come in white, you can add almost any accent color of your liking.

For example, see this lovely grey and white sheep themed nursery designed for Charlotte in Austin, TX. The rich, elegant furnishings from Restoration Hardware Baby and Child bring a classic touch to a relatively modern color scheme.

For a bolder look, consider black and white sheep décor as highlighted by Joni Lay on BHG.com. Bold, black accents such as the lamp and dresser shown in this inspiration board can make quite an impact. And, babies are attracted to high contrast colors which make this nursery that much more attractive.

For a softer, more classic look, see how entertaining and lifestyle expert Jenny Steffens Hobick used pale blue and classic lamb décor from Pottery Barn Kids to decorate her lamb themed baby room. We especially like the lamb rocker—just darling!

And, weeDECOR has several sheep wall decal designs to help augment your nursery décor. Our jumping sheep wall decal has three little sheep jumping over fences onto blades of grass. We also have a personalized sheep decal to make your baby’s nursery feel even more unique.

Winter got you down? Think Spring and Decorate with Green!

Emerald green was named Pantone’s color of the year for 2013 and what better reason to start thinking spring.

The Pantone folks describe emerald as “a lively, radiant, lush green”. Such vibrant adjectives are sure to inspire a vibrant room! See how emerald green paired with bright canary yellow can create a gorgeous nursery in this fabulous nursery featured on all-things-baby blog TheBump. This nursery says “spring” all year round. We’re also a fan of the bold black accents such as the vintage stroller and sweet nightstand depicted in the design.

If you are challenged with finding matching décor in emerald green, consider using lime green, which is more broadly found in nursery designs. Lime green works well with a variety of blues, yellows, browns, and more making it versatile for decorating. For example, we’re in awe of this aqua and lime green nursery featuring a gorgeous lime green dresser made out of an old TV cabinet and a white changing table with lime green accents.

succulent copper planters

DIY Copper Planters - Poppytalk

Another way to add green to your nursery décor is with the real thing – plants! Although we recommend keeping these well out of baby’s reach, consider copper planters & succulents to add green to your nursery. Inspiring Canadian design blog Poppytalk describes how to create DIY copper planters with succulents and ketchup. Yes – you read correctly. Ketchup. Succulents are low maintenance, which is perfect when you have a new baby. Hens and chicks and aloe vera are great non-toxic options (safe for toddlers).

If real plants aren’t your thing, check out our selection of nature wall decals, which can give you that green look without the maintenance. Our most popular nature wall decal mural features traditional green leaves. You can also choose from green and yellow bird and owl accents. We also have a safari wall decal mural featuring green palm trees and shrubbery for that jungle look in green.

Decorating White Walls? Bright Ideas for your Kid’s Room

If you can’t paint your kid’s room walls because you live in an apartment or you just prefer white walls, do not fear. Your kid’s room decorating options are far from limited. White walls can be an inspiring starting point for designing a bright and bold baby room.

A white wall gives you an empty canvas, which you can take in so many different design directions. We’re a fan of bright colors because they look so striking on a white background.

For example, see how mom, Taza, decorated her nursery in her white-walled apartment with a collage of bold and bright colors. One of the statement pieces in the room is a yellow dresser that she and her husband painted. She adds a lime green vintage sofa as well as a colorful strand of garland above the non-working fireplace. Her children’s multi-colored toys add a ton of visual interest so that nothing else is really needed. Beautiful!

Speaking of garland, Land of Nod has a fun multi-colored strand made of soft felt, which adds such a festive touch to your white walled room. You DIYers might even be able to make garland yourself!

Australian blog, Little Sooti, is also a fan of white walls in a kids room with a bent of modern, Scandinavian design. Her collection of kids room finds include bold touches such as a red rocking horse, blue colored floors, a multi-colored rug, and more.

Finally, check out Babble for this Scandinavian inspired kids homework/play area which, like mom Taza, uses the color from kids toys to help make the room pop. This work area has cute colorful play drums, a mini red piano, a yellow toy suitcase, and more to bring bold and bright to these white walls.

Eye-catching stripes create an accent wall.

If you follow our blog, you already know that one of the biggest recent trends in nursery décor is minimalism. Moms and dads are being more practical in their selection of paint colors, fabrics, and furniture so that their baby can grow in to, not out of, his or her room. In an effort to save time and money, many parents are moving away from babyish nurseries and designing simpler, sophisticated spaces that will withstand the test of time.

Another latest and greatest trend in nurseries everywhere is vintage décor. Nurseries that incorporate vintage elements are popping up everywhere, and there are websites dedicated to retro room design for babies and kids. Meaning, there is plenty of inspiration out there for parents who are searching for a whimsical, nostalgic feel in their home.

While these two styles (minimalist and vintage) may seem to be in stark contrast to one another, a Canadian mom found a way to effortlessly incorporate elements from each in her baby boy’s room. The result? A playful space that is that exudes sophistication and eludes the kitsch factor that can come into play when decorating with vintage pieces.

Mom tells us, “We modeled the nursery after a more modern aesthetic. We wanted a room for our baby boy that was both functional and stylish that would grow with him and that didn’t scream baby room! The first item that we chose for the nursery was the fabric for the custom curtains that we had made. We fell in love with the modern chic print and the colors.” We are in love with those curtains too, Mom! The muted colors are a perfect pairing with the print. For the wall color, these parents turned to the perennial favorite, Benjamin Moore, and selected Collingwood OC-28, a soft dove grey color that provides a subtle backdrop for the wall decor. But this couple didn’t stop there! They decided to create a stunning accent wall using masculine striped wallpaper designed Graham & Brown and ordered from Home Depot. This unique attribute adds so much visual interest to the room without overpowering the other features.

On to the furniture! Mom writes, “The crib and dresser/change table combo is from Cara Mia Furniture and the custom upholstered glider chair is from Monte.” The contrast between the rich color of the furniture and the soft grey walls is just stunning! The stately crib is softened up with Dwell transportation bedding and organic duvet cover.

And of course, no nursery or kid’s room is complete without unique wall accents and accessories. Enter weeDECOR! Mom found the perfect spot for our whimsical white tree wall decal. In keeping with a modern, minimalist feel, she chose white for a clean, crisp look. Mom tells us, “Other wall decor is made up of some vintage prints from our families and pictures taken during the pregnancy and shortly after our son’s birth. All are mounted in frames created by Maclean Young Picture Framers. The lighting is a mixture of vintage finds and a custom ceiling fixture. The toy bins are from 3 Sprouts Organics and there is an assortment of vintage stuffed animals (original authentic Paddington Bear) and new finds!”

This is a mom who knows how to mix different design elements and strike a balance between 2 competing décor trends. Vintage and minimalist pieces coalesce to create a stylish and unique room that will be enjoyed for years. Great job, Mom! You are an inspiration!
