Eye-catching stripes create an accent wall.

If you follow our blog, you already know that one of the biggest recent trends in nursery décor is minimalism. Moms and dads are being more practical in their selection of paint colors, fabrics, and furniture so that their baby can grow in to, not out of, his or her room. In an effort to save time and money, many parents are moving away from babyish nurseries and designing simpler, sophisticated spaces that will withstand the test of time.

Another latest and greatest trend in nurseries everywhere is vintage décor. Nurseries that incorporate vintage elements are popping up everywhere, and there are websites dedicated to retro room design for babies and kids. Meaning, there is plenty of inspiration out there for parents who are searching for a whimsical, nostalgic feel in their home.

While these two styles (minimalist and vintage) may seem to be in stark contrast to one another, a Canadian mom found a way to effortlessly incorporate elements from each in her baby boy’s room. The result? A playful space that is that exudes sophistication and eludes the kitsch factor that can come into play when decorating with vintage pieces.

Mom tells us, “We modeled the nursery after a more modern aesthetic. We wanted a room for our baby boy that was both functional and stylish that would grow with him and that didn’t scream baby room! The first item that we chose for the nursery was the fabric for the custom curtains that we had made. We fell in love with the modern chic print and the colors.” We are in love with those curtains too, Mom! The muted colors are a perfect pairing with the print. For the wall color, these parents turned to the perennial favorite, Benjamin Moore, and selected Collingwood OC-28, a soft dove grey color that provides a subtle backdrop for the wall decor. But this couple didn’t stop there! They decided to create a stunning accent wall using masculine striped wallpaper designed Graham & Brown and ordered from Home Depot. This unique attribute adds so much visual interest to the room without overpowering the other features.

On to the furniture! Mom writes, “The crib and dresser/change table combo is from Cara Mia Furniture and the custom upholstered glider chair is from Monte.” The contrast between the rich color of the furniture and the soft grey walls is just stunning! The stately crib is softened up with Dwell transportation bedding and organic duvet cover.

And of course, no nursery or kid’s room is complete without unique wall accents and accessories. Enter weeDECOR! Mom found the perfect spot for our whimsical white tree wall decal. In keeping with a modern, minimalist feel, she chose white for a clean, crisp look. Mom tells us, “Other wall decor is made up of some vintage prints from our families and pictures taken during the pregnancy and shortly after our son’s birth. All are mounted in frames created by Maclean Young Picture Framers. The lighting is a mixture of vintage finds and a custom ceiling fixture. The toy bins are from 3 Sprouts Organics and there is an assortment of vintage stuffed animals (original authentic Paddington Bear) and new finds!”

This is a mom who knows how to mix different design elements and strike a balance between 2 competing décor trends. Vintage and minimalist pieces coalesce to create a stylish and unique room that will be enjoyed for years. Great job, Mom! You are an inspiration!

It's a turtle parade!

Look at these turtles strut their stuff! A New York mom tells us, “I decided on turtle theme because I love turtles and found these colored turtle wall decals from weeDECOR that were perfect. The bedding from Pottery Barn Kids came with a turtle fitted sheet. The colors of the bedding matched the decals I purchased! Fabulous!”

It IS fabulous! Wow! The Today’s Baby Augusta Elite Convertible Crib in cherry finish has clean lines that add to the contemporary feel of the room. We love how the bold colors of the turtles pop against a sky blue backdrop. This mom decided to run the turtle parade in a continuous loop along all four walls of the nursery. Too, too cute!

Any renters out there? We know just how frustrating it can be when you want to liven up your dwelling but can’t make any major changes. Hey, we can help with that! A mom in Kansas discovered how to use weeDECOR wall decals to embellish the walls of her daughter’s playrooom. She explains, “We are renting, so I wanted to do something to “jazz up” our little girl’s playroom without permanently changing the walls- enter weeDECOR! The fantastic staff helped me modify the colors since I wanted to add more color to the room and not necessarily stick to a particular palette; the paint is so pale that I wanted different colors.”

This  is a mom who knows what she wants, and at weeDECOR, we pride ourselves in offering the perfect wall decor to match your personal style. When she told us of her color dilemma, we created some custom colors to add the visual punch she was aiming for in the playroom. The new colors turned out to be exactly what she wanted. Happy mom, happy weeDECOR.

The nature wall decal mural offered the wow factor and versatility that she was looking for in playroom decor. The towering tree graces one wall, and other pieces were used to embellish those fabulous alphabet flash cards by Mark Fisher. Mom used a clever combination of string and clothespins to display the alphabet in a unique way that minimizes wall damage. With some savvy use of everyday household items and wall-friendly decals from weeDECOR, she is sure to get back that coveted security deposit!

We love it all!

This mom found the perfect embellishment to her crib bedding in our friendly whale wall stickers.

A Brooklyn mom found the most amazing accents to decorate her baby boys’ nursery. She writes, “As soon as we found out we were having a boy we knew we wanted to embrace everything BLUE! It first started off with finding the perfect bedding…we’ve always been fans of Pottery Barn Kids so it was love at first sight when we saw the JACKSON themed bedding set!”

We share her love of whales! There is something so charming about them when used in nursery decor. And what little one is fascinated by undersea creatures?

Once mom and dad decided on the bedding and furniture, it was time to find some cute embellishments to complete her nursery. Mom explains, “The cute chubby whales were so lovable that we went all out! We paired the Jackson bedding with their (Pottery Barn’s) whale mobile and whale wicker toy basket. The last and finishing touch was finding whale decals. Your store had exactly what we imagined. We got the large whale in matte navy and the small whales in light blue. It is truly the perfect finishing touch. Everyone that has seen our set up loves the whale themed look! Thanks for giving us “icing on the cake” for our crib set!”

We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this room. The whale wall decals look fabulous above the crib, and the colors are an exact match! It sounds like these parents had a whale of a time creating an incredible nursery. Great job!

We love these sweet and unique wall art and coordinating throw pillow sets from San Francisco-based The Little Acorn, a company dedicated to creating colorful, whimsical, meaningful and socially aware products for adults and children. Aside from beautiful designs, what makes the Little Acorn unique is that they strive to build positive messages and learning in their baby room decor pieces. And, what’s more, all of the art and characters are original and created by Bridget Kelly.

Their wall art includes words and whimsical images that teach children colors, social awareness, tolerance, appreciation of nature, and love of all things. For example, wall art depicting a green inchworm says “I am green” or a ladybug featuring the words “I am red” helps kids with colors. To encourage diverse thinking, little dolls of various ethnicity hold hands over the phrase “Friends Come in All Colors”.

The Little Acorn also has cute baby bedding, rugs, and other uniquely designed nursery decor to help you decorate a fabulously fun baby room. Choose from gender neutral decor featuring owls, trees, birds, and other nature elements. For a baby girl, they have ethnically diverse doll themed decor. For a baby boy, they have different colored robots and space themed decor promoting diversity of friends.

Dwell Studio is always coming up with fresh, modern nursery design and this time is no different. Working with frazier & wing, Dwell has designed a line of colorful and creative baby mobiles that can add that touch of delight to your baby’s crib as well as whimsical strands of garland that add festivity to any room.

The mobiles are made in the USA from card stock paper and come in a range of colors that will coordinate with your many of your favorite DwellStudio patterns. Choose from a “Zinnia” flower mobile in pink, blue, and grey; a hanging polka dot mobile in aqua, green, white, and chocolate brown; a “Sparrow” hanging bird mobile in pale pink, pale blue, white, and chocolate brown (our favorite); and, the very popular “Transportation” mobile motif of cars, buses, trains, and blimps in your favorite boy colors.

The shapes are die-cut, then strung on a strong, clear thread and hung from a thin acrylic disc. Dwell includes an extra length of clear thread for hanging the mobile at desired height. Be sure that is high enough to keep out of your baby boy’s or girl’s reach :)

For an older child, Dwell has two cute garland strands also made from die-cut card stock paper including their Zinnia floral garland in bold and bright colors. The garland is sewn with clear thread with loops at either end for hanging. Fun!
