We found so many gorgeous colored cribs that we had to split them up into two posts. This post focuses on beautiful classic colored cribs. Think softer curves and antique touches with eye-soothing colors for both you and your little one.

We love this turquoise blue or aqua crib by Young America.  Sold at Poshtots, you can find this classic-styled crib in a multitude of colors. Part of the Kenridge Collection, this classic crib also converts into a toddler bed and/or a daybed. Made in the US, this crib has 2 mattress height adjustments and sells for $1,079.

Pretty in classic, Lea Industries’ Spring Garden Pink Baby Crib sets the stage perfectly for your baby girl’s classic pink nursery. This crib is aptly described to have “soft, creamy colors and a delicate design that will meld perfectly with the rest of the Spring Garden collection, or your own unique nursery décor”. We couldn’t agree more. This pink crib sells for $1,005 at SimplyBabyFurniture.com and also comes in a pretty pale yellow.

If regal is more your style, see this antique silver sleigh-styled crib by designer Stephen Bauer. Sold at Pippin McGee for $1,321. The decadently rich silver color of the crib and the ornate detailing is sure to make any baby feel like a prince or princess. This sleigh bed crib also converts to a toddler bed.

Finally, the Stationary crib also by Young America, is shown in a soothing smoky blue. This blue crib has sleigh-bed like curves and a touch of detail giving it that charmingly simple, classic look where the color makes the crib. For those interested in high-design and flash, consider New York based Ducduc’s Alex crib. This modern crib of cobalt blue comes with 4 mattress height settings and converts to a toddler bed. You can also choose from brilliant bright orange, bright pink, or white. Note that you need to be sure about this crib as each piece is custom made to order and cannot be returned. The crib is made of 100% hardwood and non-VOC lacquered paint. This crib sells for $1,495 at Babybox.com.

And, no need to just be square!  The popular Stokke SLEEPI crib comes in a gorgeous grey. And, rather than converting into just the traditional toddler bed, this crib converts into two chairs. For further practicality, the crib mattress, made of hypo allergenic foam, is machine washable. This contemporary baby furniture piece sells for $1000 at SimplyKidsFurniture.

Finally, for the more practical and/or budget conscious, Ikea has a fabulously priced modern colored crib called the “Somnat”.  The Somnat comes in whimsically colored blue, pink, and lime green crib shown here. Unfortunately, this crib is not for sale online so you will need to check in stores. It’s hard to go wrong with their $99.99 price point.

Sold on Amazon and other baby furnishing stores, Azur’s use of playful details, colors, and themes to enhance their furniture bring functionality and style that is hard to find.

Take this blue hippopotamus changing table, for example. Part of Azur’s Savana collection, this hippo themed baby furniture piece is a dresser with a dual functioning changing table and bathtub – yes, bathtub. The 6 gallon tub is on the top inside and can be replaced with a shelf when your baby has grown out of the tub. The cute, decorative hippos are hand cut and hand painted to give it that personality we love.

Azur’s baby cribs have comparable functionality and style. This watermelon pink and white colored modern cribis part of their Birikino Line. It is eco-friendly as it is made with beech heartwood and painted with non toxic water based paint. It is super functional as it has a pull out drawer for extra storage and can be converted in a toddler bed later.

Azur has baby bedding, as well, in similar modern designs and colors. This apple green, modern baby bedding set also from their Birikino line is handmade with decorative embroidery. The three piece bedding set includes a half bumper (fits 3 sides of the headboard), duvet, and pillowcase. We love this springy shade of green for a gender neutral nursery. We love stylish, modern design in the nursery.  And, what better place to start your modern nursery decorating project than with a modern crib?  We agonized over picking the five best modern cribs because there are so many great options out there.  And, we cheated a bit and created a runners-up category for a few favorites we just couldn’t leave out.

1) The Stokke Sleepi crib – We love this modern round crib not only for its dare-to-be-different shape, but for its convertibility and portability.  The Stokke Sleepi crib converts from crib to toddler bed and its size and shape makes it easy to move the crib through small doorways and around tightcorners.  The crib is made with environmentally-friendly beechwood for the eco-friendly mom.  The clean design works with contemporary and traditional décor and the round shape softens the hard edges you often see in modern design – perfect for a soft, cozy baby nursery. $1000 at Land of Nod (get a $100 AmEx gift card if you purchase by 2/28/10).
 
2) Solare Crib by Q Collection Junior – We love the arch on either end of this modern crib which serves two purposes.  First, it creates the illusion of a classic crib canopy and second, it holds a mobile for entertaining your wee one.  There is enough room underneath for storage and it is made of locally-sourced solid ash and bent wood construction. 3) Nursery Works Studio Crib – Clean, simple, and modern is what you expect from Nursery Works.  How they manage to make a piece of nursery furniture that functions as a crib, changing table, storage drawer, and storage cabinet that can convert into a toddler bed and fold-out desk AND doesn’t look like an eye-sore is the brilliance in their design.  Toddler bed conversion kit is sold separately.  $1780 on Amazon.

4) Muu Kids Modern Crib- We love the shape and style of this modern crib from Muu as well as the option to decorate it with colorful, interchangeable panels.  Made of solid maple, poplar and wood fiber, the modern crib above has a soft green and brown decorative leafpanel – great for a nature themed nursery.  You can choose from blue whales, pink flowers, or blue helicopters. The crib is available in either a natural or walnut base finish (shown here) and you can buy a conversion kit to convert it to a toddler bed.  $1175 at Petit Tresor.  

5) Baby Mod, Roxanne 3-1 Convertible Modern Crib – If the brilliance in Nursery Works is smart, modern design, the brilliance of WalMart  is smart, modern pricing with pretty good modern design to boot.  Walmart’s Baby Mod Roxanne crib is made of New Zealand pine wood construction and comes with a drawer and two storage compartments.  It’s also convertible to a toddler bed (kit sold separately).  For modern design and modern price, you can’t beat this. $199 at Walmart.
