Finally, this mom chose our Personalized Happy Owls in bright pink and our smiley font – which comes with cute hearts to dot the I’s “Olivia”. We are a big fan of putting the branch in a corner so that it looks as if it is growing out of the wall and hanging softly above a changing table or other piece of nursery furniture.

Using weeDECOR Wall Decals to Embellish a Bookshelf in a Baby Room

Looking for a stylish and modern nursery with a touch of playfulness? You’ve found it! This Ohio couple is all about style and they used weeDECOR’s wall decals to add that touch of playfulness every nursery needs.

“We love our decals!”, the couple told weeDECOR. They further explained, “We used the decals on the half of the nursery without the crib. We went neutral with the color and decor because we weren’t sure if we were having a boy or a girl”.

At weeDECOR, we’re a fan of modern and simplicity and are so proud to have helped this couple achieve their vision for their baby’s room. The couple started with a base paint of Sherwin Williams “Basket Beige” The couple chose to highlight their nursery with monkey wall accents by decorating with our monkeys in a tree wall decal who swing playfully from the tree branches while eyeing the nearby giraffe wall decal and elephant wall decals.

For additional wall accents, they placed a hanging monkey and monkey with banana strategically in corners around the room and near the windows. Above their bookshelf, they placed a mama and baby elephant with a sweet little bird perched playfully on the elephant’s trunk.

Go gender-neutral with a jungle themed nursery.

This cute and cozy nursery is a great place to spend some time with your wee one

Lions and tigers and fun are found in these fabulous nurseries. From the bedding to the decals to the organization, a jungle-themed room gives parents loads of great decor options. Just add furniture and a baby and you’re all set!

This mom and dad created a gender-neutral nursery using a beautiful paint color, adorable bedding, and super-creative use of our wall decals. Mom and dad coated the walls with Benjamin Moore’s Country Green to give the room a soft, soothing feel. They outfitted the bed with Sleepin’ Safari bed cribbing from Land of Nod. With colorful animals appliqued on the quilt and bumper, this was a great choice that accents the wall color perfectly.

The piece de resistance in this nursery is the fantastic wall decor found over the crib. File this under…wall decals, they’re not just for walls anymore! Mom and dad created their own custom artwork featuring some of our favorite decals. A cuddly blue elephant starts the parade, followed by a stately giraffe and lion. A lumbering hippo and darling little turtle round out the animal train. Carefully placed on wooden canvases, these one-of-a-kind pieces are modern enough for the room and timeless enough to be passed down the the grandchildren. We are, once again, blown away by the creativity of moms and dads everywhere!

A friendly animal parade stretches end-to-end over Nathan's crib.

This New York City mom went with a jungle theme in her little boy’s nursery, and the results are incredible! Benjamin Moore’s Grey Cashmere blankets the wall and provides a lovely backdrop for that Ouef Sparrow crib in white. Minimalist bedding provides some leeway to jazz up the walls with adorable decals, and that’s just what mom did! She chose two complimentary decal designs to bring some fun to her little boy’s room. Mom used our safari wall decal mural to create a little parade across the wall. A handsome giraffe leads the way followed by his charming safari friends. It’s only appropriate that the turtle acts as the caboose in this animal train!  Mom chose to personalize her son’s room with out premium personalized monkey wall decal. We just love how that mischievous little monkey looks ready to drop in on the fun as well!

Mom tells us, “The Safari wall decals match perfectly with the furniture and the Cloud B Monkey Sleep Machine and Tiny Love Sweet Island Dreams mobile!  We love them and so does everyone else that’s come by to see it!” We couldn’t agree more! This is a great example of two great looks that look great together. Fantastic job, mom!

Eye-catching stripes create an accent wall.

If you follow our blog, you already know that one of the biggest recent trends in nursery décor is minimalism. Moms and dads are being more practical in their selection of paint colors, fabrics, and furniture so that their baby can grow in to, not out of, his or her room. In an effort to save time and money, many parents are moving away from babyish nurseries and designing simpler, sophisticated spaces that will withstand the test of time.

Another latest and greatest trend in nurseries everywhere is vintage décor. Nurseries that incorporate vintage elements are popping up everywhere, and there are websites dedicated to retro room design for babies and kids. Meaning, there is plenty of inspiration out there for parents who are searching for a whimsical, nostalgic feel in their home.

While these two styles (minimalist and vintage) may seem to be in stark contrast to one another, a Canadian mom found a way to effortlessly incorporate elements from each in her baby boy’s room. The result? A playful space that is that exudes sophistication and eludes the kitsch factor that can come into play when decorating with vintage pieces.

Mom tells us, “We modeled the nursery after a more modern aesthetic. We wanted a room for our baby boy that was both functional and stylish that would grow with him and that didn’t scream baby room! The first item that we chose for the nursery was the fabric for the custom curtains that we had made. We fell in love with the modern chic print and the colors.” We are in love with those curtains too, Mom! The muted colors are a perfect pairing with the print. For the wall color, these parents turned to the perennial favorite, Benjamin Moore, and selected Collingwood OC-28, a soft dove grey color that provides a subtle backdrop for the wall decor. But this couple didn’t stop there! They decided to create a stunning accent wall using masculine striped wallpaper designed Graham & Brown and ordered from Home Depot. This unique attribute adds so much visual interest to the room without overpowering the other features.

On to the furniture! Mom writes, “The crib and dresser/change table combo is from Cara Mia Furniture and the custom upholstered glider chair is from Monte.” The contrast between the rich color of the furniture and the soft grey walls is just stunning! The stately crib is softened up with Dwell transportation bedding and organic duvet cover.

And of course, no nursery or kid’s room is complete without unique wall accents and accessories. Enter weeDECOR! Mom found the perfect spot for our whimsical white tree wall decal. In keeping with a modern, minimalist feel, she chose white for a clean, crisp look. Mom tells us, “Other wall decor is made up of some vintage prints from our families and pictures taken during the pregnancy and shortly after our son’s birth. All are mounted in frames created by Maclean Young Picture Framers. The lighting is a mixture of vintage finds and a custom ceiling fixture. The toy bins are from 3 Sprouts Organics and there is an assortment of vintage stuffed animals (original authentic Paddington Bear) and new finds!”

This is a mom who knows how to mix different design elements and strike a balance between 2 competing décor trends. Vintage and minimalist pieces coalesce to create a stylish and unique room that will be enjoyed for years. Great job, Mom! You are an inspiration!

weeDECOR’s Top Nursery Decorating Trends of 2011

Curious? We were, too! So we tracked down the top trends in nursery decorating for 2011. See what we’ve found!

5. Minimalism

nursery decor. nursery trends

This mom and dad create a simple and serene space for their little one.

A long-time favorite of urban dwellers, minimalistic décor has made its way to nurseries across the US. We’ve seen some absolutely stunning kids’ rooms that scream “serenity.” While minimalistic design may seem easy (just pick one or two things and keep it simple), it actually requires more thought, more research, and more precision. Parents who use this approach to nursery décor must pick from what can be an overwhelming amount of products in an effort to find that one piece of art, that one wall decal, that one piece of furniture to serve as the statement piece for the room. We all know how easy it is to get sucked into the 12-piece nursery bedding set! With a valance! And blanket! And nightlight! And rug! And drawer pulls! And on and on! By paring down to the basic essentials, accenting with one or two design elements and creatively using color, parents are creating refined, sophisticated nurseries for their babies. We particularly like this minimalist nursery we found on ChicCheapNursery.

4. Begging, Borrowing, & Stealing

The popularity of Pinterest has absolutely exploded in 2011! This social discovery platform now boasts up to 3 million users, and once you spend an hour (or six!) on the site, it’s easy to see why people are gravitating to pinterest for design inspiration. Moms everywhere are able to “beg” for feedback, “borrow” a concept and modify it to make it their own, and “steal” creative and unique ideas of other crafty parents when designing their nurseries. Pinterest gives parents access to a world of clever, beautiful, and sometimes profound collections of images and tutorials. While you’re on the hunt, visit weeDECOR’s pinterest page to see some of our favorite finds.

3. Form, meet Function in these Darling Nightlights

nightlight

This tabletop giraffe nightlight would look fabulous in an animal-themed nursery.

Nursery nighlights are a must for new parents! There is no better way to avoid fumbling around blindly for the burp cloth while keeping things on the dark side so that baby is compelled to go back to sleep after the feeding. This year, we have come across some absolutely adorable nightlights for nurseries. Gone are the days of the pitiful little plastic piece with exposed light bulb that is relegated to the corner of the room. Moms and dads are integrating decorative nightlights into their themed nurseries. The one above from Jonathan Adler is one of the cutest we’ve seen! This nightlight is more of a design element, and less of an afterthought.

2. Growth Charts

growth charts. wall decals

Track your wee one's growth with our removable, reusable, growth chart wall decal.

Who is more surprised by the rate that children grow, the parents, or the kids themselves? It’s tough to make that call. Decorative growth charts are all the rage in nurseries and kids rooms this year because parents and children delight in having something tangible to track what is happening before their very eyes. In 2011, we’ve seen some unique variations on the standard paper-version of growth charts. At weeDECOR, we have an adorable collection of growth chart wall decals. Our designs are interactive, meaning the kids can take part in marking their height each year. Our friends over at Petite Lemon offer another interesting spin on this design element with their canvas growth charts.

1. Non-traditional paint colors

This Canadian mom just said "no" to baby blue.

This year, we’ve seen a radical departure from overly babyish nurseries. Some parents are selecting furniture and design elements that grow with the child. So instead of completely revamping the room as the child ages, parents just switch out the accessories and leave the major features the same. One way to accomplish this look is through the use of non-traditional paint colors in the nursery. The nursery above features a sophisticated dove gray wall color. A Canadian mom enveloped her baby’s nursery in Benjamin Moore’s Collingwood OC-28, but incorporated some child-like accessories. The room doesn’t scream “baby,” but isn’t overly mature, either. This mom, like many others this year, chose a paint color that will see her baby well into the teen years.

Watch Them Grow Before Your Very Eyes with Growth Chart Wall Decals

When it comes to the monitoring of your children’s growth, you have a couple of options. You can tear through your filing cabinet that holds all of those reports from the well checks (no fun at all), or you can incorporate a fabulous design element into your child’s bedroom using weeDECOR’s growth chart wall decals (lots of fun!).

giraffe growth chart wall decal

Can you believe that one day, your little one will tower just as high as this giraffe?

Your little man will absolutely love to have this giraffe growth chart wall decal in his room! At 73 inches high, this gentle giant is impressive in both size and cuteness. We think this design would be a fabulous focal point in an animal-themed kid’s room or nursery. We offer this growth chart wall decal in brown, mocha and orange so you are certain to find the right color to perfectly accent the room. Imagine the fun you’ll have as you track your wee one’s growth over the years! Our wall decals are removable and reusable, so even if your little one switches rooms throughout the years, this growth chart wall sticker can move right along with him!

Tree Wall Decal Growth Chart

Form meets function in this gorgeous tree wall decal growth chart.

An Illinois mom found a great way to adorn her daughter’s wall with a design element that is both beautiful and functional. This tree growth chart wall decal looks absolutely stunning against a pale aqua wall. Our designers custom made this wall decal to match the aqua and brown room (and we’d happily to the same for you…just ask us!). We love that this design includes some mini-milestones along the way. Celebrate your little sweetheart when she reaches the first flower, second flower, the very first butterfly. Our growth chart wall decals are built to last, which is why this treetop is 75 inches high! We like to accommodate everyone, including future WNBA players. It may take 16 years to reach the top, but this wall decal will stand tall year after year after year, even if you move it to another wall or another room entirely.

weeDECOR has an entire collection of growth chart wall decals for boys and girls. We offer a car growth chart wall decal for your transportation-themed room, a beautiful floral design for your darling daughter, and more!
