Because wallpaper can be a pain in the neck to put up and take down, wall paint has become the preferred decorating solution to add liveliness and color to a room.  It has encouraged creativity in selecting shades, styles, and palettes to get a one-of-a-kind look.  Here is a perfect example of how all of these elements can help you create a fun girl’s room with painted horizontal stripes.

Designed by Diane Hughes, Barbara Vaughn and painted by Eric Karl Anderson, this room was decorated for the York Show House in Maine and published by Better Homes and Gardens.  The room was designed with gorgeous shades of pink painted in thick horizontal stripes throughout these little girls’ bedroom.

What makes this room work so well is the modern wide stripes in classic colors of pink wall paint juxtaposed against romantic styled white furniture and decor.  The rounded corners on the bed and dresser soften the angularity of the stripes.  In particular, the white round wall mirror looks stunning on the wall.  And, the white wicker furniture adds to the coziness of the room.  How fun!

Yes, there is so much pink in girls’ room decorating.  But, that is simply because it is so fun and such a versatile color with which to decorate.  These three delicious decor sets from luxury kid’s room and baby nursery decor retailer Rosenberry Rooms inspired our article title – or maybe it was the thought of holiday sweets :) .  Either way, you cannot go wrong with these sweet as candy pink decor sets!

We love damask as a way to bring a classic look to a kid’s bedroom.  But, in order for it not to feel so heavy, a bright color is needed.  That is why we love this damask print bedding highlighted with green, pink, and white candy striped bed skirt and accent pillows.  The pink and white striped wall paint is easy to recreate with a little tape on the wall and a steady hand.  Put the icing on the cake with a few hanging wall letters or wall decals and a candy striped rug.

If you prefer something a bit more classic, consider toning down the colors with a soft gray or toning down the patterns with a classic rose pattern as is featured in the second decor set above in the chair and rug.  The pink bedding set is by Oopsy Daisy (known for their children’s wall art) and New Arrival’s Inc.  The vertical candy striped wall helps bring height to the space which is helpful given the wide dresser and bed in the room.

Finally, the bright green, white, and pink candy striped girl’s bedding in the third set screams sweet as sugar!  Balance is brought to the room with the soft lavender wall paint and sage green rug.

Pretty Patterns in Pink, Paisley, & Polka Dots for a Girl's Room

Patterns are a great way to bring visual interest to a room and what better way to do that than to decorate a girl’s room with paisleys and polka dots.  This bedroom decor set is from Koo Koo Bear Kids, a children’s furniture, furnishings, and gifts retailer, with a beautiful selection of quality home decor items for kids.

Your baby girl will feel as pretty as a princess in her castle with this luxurious collection of duvet cover, bed skirt, sheets, throw pillows, and wall decor topped off with a fabulously textured pink shag carpet.  The paisley designs include florals in pink and light green accented with lavender, blue, and yellow.  They work nicely with the fairy-themed sheets, paisley pillow shams, and matching duvet.  We love how the pink monogram and polka dot throw pillows punctuate the bedding.  Girl’s room decorating can be so decadently fun!

The decor set is framed by Koo Koo Bear’s Ma Marie Panel Bed, a classic collection, manufactured from slightly distressed solid wood and wood composites that comes in cherry, antique white, and antique black.  The soft-curved, romantic-styled bed can be accompanied by a three drawer nightstand, dressing chest, or bookcase.

Finally, the wall decor should not be left unappreciated. The pink and green dragonflies are made of pine wood and have glitter accents.  And, the butterfly and dragonfly wall hanging is a painted canvas.  Consider wall stickers as an option should you choose not to put so many holes in your walls.  Or, consider the wall decor separately if you are decorating a nature or animal themed baby nursery.

Princess & Fairy Tale Nursery Décorating Ideas

princess nursery decor

The most popular girl’s room décor is princess.  We found this beautiful princess nursery on Project Nursery.

We love what mom Shannon did to create this magical fairy tale room for her own little princess, Taylor.  After all, who wouldn’t love the soft pink and cream colors, romantic chandelier and whimsical butterflies in this beautiful nursery?  This nursery is traditional yet soft and feminine, but also with a hint of fantasy.  We also love what was done with the walls, which included painting wide beige stripes and adding hand-painted trees to create a magical fairytale touch to the room.

To create your own fairy tale look for your own little princess, we suggest the following decorating ideas:

Walls

Start with pink walls and create a two-tone look, for example what mom Shannon did with the beige stripes or paint the top of the walls a light pink and the bottom a darker shade of pink.

Once the wall has been painted, consider adding an elegant mural to give the walls some flair.  For example, mom Shannon added a tree right out of a fairy tale story. You could also paint a castle mural or a scene out of one of your favorite princess stories. If you don’t have the budget or time for a painted-on mural, try adding any number of wall decals to create a fairy tale look for your princess’ nursery. For example, we have a gorgeous selection of tree wall decals that come in mocha, brown, or cream with sage and apple green leaves that can give you a comparable look.

Accessories

Consider adding a sheer white or pink canopy over the bed or crib.  A canopy of the bed will add the feeling of royalty to the nursery.  The bedding can be a neutral color like cream or white with hints of pink detailing.

Add a vanity to create a true princess feeling to the room. Consider a wood vanity with a vintage feel and curved mirror and a white or pink base.

Complete the look of the room off with a collection of princess accessories or other décor that adds flair to the room. We love the white & pink butterflies hanging from the Taylor’s nursery, but other princess accessories could be pink rug, chandelier, night lamp, clock, chair or dress-up chest.

And last, but not least, be sure to personalize your princess room with your baby girl’s name. You can use hanging wall letters as shown here or try our extensive collection of personalized girl name wall decals which look like beautifully stenciled wall letters without the mess of paint.
