Up, Up, & Away with this Gorgeous Hot Air Balloon Wall Mural

Mom, Dad, and weeDECOR custom created this wall sticker mural for their little one.

Balloons, birds, and blue combine to create one gorgeous wall decal mural for an equally gorgeous baby! We were approached by a San Francisco couple to design wall decor that would bring their vision of a perfect nursery to life. Dad proposed to mom in a hot air balloon (awwww….) so they though it fitting to design the nursery of their first born, Ryan, using a hot air balloon theme. They wanted bright and bold colors and asked weeDECOR if we could do something custom. At weeDECOR, we jumped at the chance to help out these awesome parents-to-be. Our designers are always at the ready when special requests come in, and we know that only the best will do when creating that perfect space for your precious wee ones!

Mom and dad prepared the walls by blanketing them in Benjamin Moore’s Ice Blue from the Aura line. The choice of a softer paint color was brilliant for this project, as the white in the clouds and bold colors of the balloons are a great contrast to the muted tones of the background.

Then, it was on to the mural design! In the center, we fashioned a blue and lavender balloon personalized with “Ryan” to serve as the focal point of the mural. We created balloons of various sizes to give the impression of depth in the room (notice how the smaller balloons seem further away than the larger ones?). We included lots of bold color combinations like orange/blue, yellow/green, red/white, and blue/yellow so that the balloons didn’t fade into the paint color.

But that’s not all! Mom and dad wanted a little extra something. In came the embellishments! The clouds (part puffy, part effervescent, and 100% adorable) are creatively placed in front of some balloons and behind others to add to the three-dimensional feel of the design. We pulled some of the bright colors from the balloons to create some matching birdies and voila! A stunning wall decal mural that has it all: personality, exquisite detail, and fun, fun, fun! After adding in the darling Dylan bedding by Serena & Lily, the room was ready for baby’s arrival.

But what does Ryan think about all this? We’re thrilled to report that mom and dad say, “Baby Ryan LOVES looking at his decals as he lays in his crib. We couldn’t be happier with the finished product!” We couldn’t be happier, either. Thanks for choosing weeDECOR!

Our tree wall decal has been selling like gangbusters speaking to a popular trend in nursery decorating – large tree wall decor.  In our opinion, there are many great reasons for this. First, nature is a versatile kid’s room decorating theme. There are so many ways to incorporate it into your design and still be unique, playful, and stylish – all the things we strive to be!  Additionally, using nature in kid’s room décor is a reminder to all of us to leave this world to our children better than we found it. Finally, trees are a powerful visual motif that can communicate both elegance and prominence. When decorating your nursery, a large tree serves the practical purpose of giving you visual focus upon which you can design a beautiful nature themed baby room.

We like this whimsical tree wall mural painted by the father of RateMySpace user Injanis. She comes from a creative family which is obvious in the eye-catching uniqueness of her nursery décor. Her dad painted the whimsical tree wall mural and her mom made the decorative owl pillows. We love the handmade fabric birds attached to the painted tree to give the wall décor 3D perspective. The tree highlights the contemporary taupe, olive green, and brown Dwell baby bedding of animal themes and the clean lines of the modern crib. The large white tree mural helps pull this look together by providing a focal point for the room.

RateMySpace user, Rachel 2010, also went the hand painted tree route. She started with Valspar’s Lake Country light aqua paint and added a lighter, high gloss La Fonda Mirage (also by Valspar) to separate the existing antique white wall color on the ceiling. She painted the tree and made the pink birds from cut-outs of clip art and stuck them to the wall. Though you can’t see it in this photo, she also has a lovely floral mobile and personalized the room with painted letters on the wall.

If you are not as DIY inclined as these moms, don’t worry!  You can get gorgeous looks like these without the work of painting. Our removable and repositionable classic tree wall decal can be customized to your liking. For example, we started with a large tree in mocha and added modern-colored blue and orange owls and birds as accents for the full nature effect. Beautiful! Swimmingly Sweet Turtle Nursery Wall Mural

We were inspired by this swimmingly sweet turtle nursery decor designed by Cocola.  The wall mural is precious!  They used ocean blue wall paint to create the sea and then added wall appliques or wall decals in turtle and polkadot designs.  The wall hangings are a nice way to bring a visual anchor to the wall.

The color palette is fabulous – both classic, yet modern using a cool blue to bring calm and a light olive green to bring warmth.  The lighter wall design works well with the darker furniture and furnishings in the room so that upon entering, you feel like you are in the calm, warm seas of the tropics. How delightful!

We love this aquarium-like baby room theme for both baby girls’ and baby boys’ rooms – although it is hard to give up an opportunity to decorate in pink should you have a girl :)

You can buy the decor set at many retailers but we found this one at Maternity and Baby Shopping Mart.  A six piece set including sheet, bumper, valence, diaper bag, quilt, and dust ruffle is a very reasonable $169.

The wall appliqués sell for $16 and the nursery wall hangings for $33. 

We wouldn’t necessarily recommend buying everything (they also sell the mobile, lamp, and pillow) as that would be overkill. But, we wanted to point out the color scheme and the wall mural as being especially cute.

Wall Centerpieces that Delight and Inspire

There are so many choices in nursery décor these days – the possibilities are endless. The best way to start is to choose a theme that you love.   Once you’ve chosen a theme, the traditional advice is to select your bedding and accessorize accordingly.  At weeDECOR, we think about things a bit differently. We believe it’s important to find that one eye-popping centerpiece or decoration that will make a statement and make visitors to your nursery breathless.   This can be just about anything – the nursery bedding, the rug, the centerpiece lighting.  For us though, it often starts with the wall. Keeping your wall bare is blasé. Why not find an eye-catching wall centerpiece that will transform your baby’s room into a modern, ultra-chic and most welcoming nursery?

We love for example the statement made through this wall decoration (image from Pottery Barn Kids).   The theme for this nursery is a lamb motif.  You can see that the wall is the centerpiece of the nursery and strays from the lamb theme.  We think the lamb theme and the wall mural tree centerpiece work beautifully together.

We think this nursery wall mural is precious and thought it could serve to get your creative juices going.  The farm animal theme may not be for everyone (nor the manual labor required to paint it) but we just had to share.  The stencil package is from www.mywonderfulwalls.com and sells for about $100 for the brushes and wall stencils. Paint is not included.  If you are creative and ambitious, painting your own wall mural could be a self-satisfying project while decorating your baby nursery.
