This cute and cozy nursery is a great place to spend some time with your wee one

Lions and tigers and fun are found in these fabulous nurseries. From the bedding to the decals to the organization, a jungle-themed room gives parents loads of great decor options. Just add furniture and a baby and you’re all set!

This mom and dad created a gender-neutral nursery using a beautiful paint color, adorable bedding, and super-creative use of our wall decals. Mom and dad coated the walls with Benjamin Moore’s Country Green to give the room a soft, soothing feel. They outfitted the bed with Sleepin’ Safari bed cribbing from Land of Nod. With colorful animals appliqued on the quilt and bumper, this was a great choice that accents the wall color perfectly.

The piece de resistance in this nursery is the fantastic wall decor found over the crib. File this under…wall decals, they’re not just for walls anymore! Mom and dad created their own custom artwork featuring some of our favorite decals. A cuddly blue elephant starts the parade, followed by a stately giraffe and lion. A lumbering hippo and darling little turtle round out the animal train. Carefully placed on wooden canvases, these one-of-a-kind pieces are modern enough for the room and timeless enough to be passed down the the grandchildren. We are, once again, blown away by the creativity of moms and dads everywhere!

A friendly animal parade stretches end-to-end over Nathan's crib.

This New York City mom went with a jungle theme in her little boy’s nursery, and the results are incredible! Benjamin Moore’s Grey Cashmere blankets the wall and provides a lovely backdrop for that Ouef Sparrow crib in white. Minimalist bedding provides some leeway to jazz up the walls with adorable decals, and that’s just what mom did! She chose two complimentary decal designs to bring some fun to her little boy’s room. Mom used our safari wall decal mural to create a little parade across the wall. A handsome giraffe leads the way followed by his charming safari friends. It’s only appropriate that the turtle acts as the caboose in this animal train!  Mom chose to personalize her son’s room with out premium personalized monkey wall decal. We just love how that mischievous little monkey looks ready to drop in on the fun as well!

Mom tells us, “The Safari wall decals match perfectly with the furniture and the Cloud B Monkey Sleep Machine and Tiny Love Sweet Island Dreams mobile!  We love them and so does everyone else that’s come by to see it!” We couldn’t agree more! This is a great example of two great looks that look great together. Fantastic job, mom!

Bring the Chic with Chevron in your Baby Nursery

I think we owe Missoni and Target a big “Thank You” for reminding all of us about the fabulousness that chevron has to offer in attire and decor. A little bold, a little zany, and totally unexpected, this print is popping up here, there, and everywhere thanks to a popularity boost of late. We’ve found some cute and creative ideas for moms and dads who wish to indulge in this latest trend.

Of-the-moment color combination plus of-the-moment print = one gorgeous nursery

Let’s start with the walls, shall we? Two great trends come together in this gorgeous nursery. The choice of grey and white for the walls somehow manages to make the chevron print look more understated because it allows the yellow to truly stand out. We love that this mom and dad decided to go chevron on one wall only. It keeps the project manageable it you’re a do-it-yourselfer. There is something about that buttery yellow that softens the crisp lines of the chevron print. We’re swooning over here!

Chevron in the Crib

Here is another great example of a grey/yellow/white that incorporates chevron prints. This look is slightly more subtle, as the bold print is kept to the bedding only and the rest of the decor is clean and simple. The crib becomes a stunning focal point of this room, and it certainly deserves the spotlight! This crib bedding by Carousel Designs is absolutely adorable, and the trim on the crib skirt is the icing on the cake.

Chevron is the perfect backdrop for these cute critters.

Thinking of an animal-themed nursery? This wall decor we found on Etsy would make such a fabulous addition to your wee one’s room. Cute little critters seem to leap from a chevron background, and the color combinations are just perfect. Lined up above the crib, what baby wouldn’t want to gaze up at these fun prints? This is an easy, affordable way to add chevron to your nursery.

Chevron rug.nursery decor

Make a statement with a chevron rug

Can’t forget the floors, can we? If you’re looking to add some drama to your nursery or kid’s room, this fun and funky rug might be the perfect find for you! The colors in this room are absolutely stunning. Who would have ever thought that a palette of turquoise, green, black, and white would produce such gorgeous results? The modern feel of the design elements here is the thread that ties all of the pieces together, and no individual piece seems to scream, “Look at me!”  This room is the embodiment of harmonious design.

Interesting colors, interesting prints

Here is another fabulous example of a unique color combination coupled with beautiful prints. This mom and dad opted for a kinder, gentler chevron rug. White and pale aqua take turns making their way from top to bottom and the overall look is borderline subtle. Toss is some bright, contrasting colors via linens and wall decor and you have an amazing nursery that has it all! Love this!

Outfit your wee one in chevron.

Still hesitant about chevron? We know, we know. It’s bold, it can be wild, it’s not for everyone. If you can’t commit to the use of chevron in your nursery decor, how about a sleeper? Your little one will look absolutely fabulous in this chevron one-piece. Still not sold on chevron after a month or two? No worries, your baby will outgrow it before you can possibly tire of such a fun print.

weeDECOR’s Top Nursery Decorating Trends of 2011

Curious? We were, too! So we tracked down the top trends in nursery decorating for 2011. See what we’ve found!

5. Minimalism

nursery decor. nursery trends

This mom and dad create a simple and serene space for their little one.

A long-time favorite of urban dwellers, minimalistic décor has made its way to nurseries across the US. We’ve seen some absolutely stunning kids’ rooms that scream “serenity.” While minimalistic design may seem easy (just pick one or two things and keep it simple), it actually requires more thought, more research, and more precision. Parents who use this approach to nursery décor must pick from what can be an overwhelming amount of products in an effort to find that one piece of art, that one wall decal, that one piece of furniture to serve as the statement piece for the room. We all know how easy it is to get sucked into the 12-piece nursery bedding set! With a valance! And blanket! And nightlight! And rug! And drawer pulls! And on and on! By paring down to the basic essentials, accenting with one or two design elements and creatively using color, parents are creating refined, sophisticated nurseries for their babies. We particularly like this minimalist nursery we found on ChicCheapNursery.

4. Begging, Borrowing, & Stealing

The popularity of Pinterest has absolutely exploded in 2011! This social discovery platform now boasts up to 3 million users, and once you spend an hour (or six!) on the site, it’s easy to see why people are gravitating to pinterest for design inspiration. Moms everywhere are able to “beg” for feedback, “borrow” a concept and modify it to make it their own, and “steal” creative and unique ideas of other crafty parents when designing their nurseries. Pinterest gives parents access to a world of clever, beautiful, and sometimes profound collections of images and tutorials. While you’re on the hunt, visit weeDECOR’s pinterest page to see some of our favorite finds.

3. Form, meet Function in these Darling Nightlights

nightlight

This tabletop giraffe nightlight would look fabulous in an animal-themed nursery.

Nursery nighlights are a must for new parents! There is no better way to avoid fumbling around blindly for the burp cloth while keeping things on the dark side so that baby is compelled to go back to sleep after the feeding. This year, we have come across some absolutely adorable nightlights for nurseries. Gone are the days of the pitiful little plastic piece with exposed light bulb that is relegated to the corner of the room. Moms and dads are integrating decorative nightlights into their themed nurseries. The one above from Jonathan Adler is one of the cutest we’ve seen! This nightlight is more of a design element, and less of an afterthought.

2. Growth Charts

growth charts. wall decals

Track your wee one's growth with our removable, reusable, growth chart wall decal.

Who is more surprised by the rate that children grow, the parents, or the kids themselves? It’s tough to make that call. Decorative growth charts are all the rage in nurseries and kids rooms this year because parents and children delight in having something tangible to track what is happening before their very eyes. In 2011, we’ve seen some unique variations on the standard paper-version of growth charts. At weeDECOR, we have an adorable collection of growth chart wall decals. Our designs are interactive, meaning the kids can take part in marking their height each year. Our friends over at Petite Lemon offer another interesting spin on this design element with their canvas growth charts.

1. Non-traditional paint colors

This Canadian mom just said "no" to baby blue.

This year, we’ve seen a radical departure from overly babyish nurseries. Some parents are selecting furniture and design elements that grow with the child. So instead of completely revamping the room as the child ages, parents just switch out the accessories and leave the major features the same. One way to accomplish this look is through the use of non-traditional paint colors in the nursery. The nursery above features a sophisticated dove gray wall color. A Canadian mom enveloped her baby’s nursery in Benjamin Moore’s Collingwood OC-28, but incorporated some child-like accessories. The room doesn’t scream “baby,” but isn’t overly mature, either. This mom, like many others this year, chose a paint color that will see her baby well into the teen years.

Aqua & Orange Owl Wall Decor - Made by Mom!

Wow! That pretty much describes the words that came out of our mouths when we saw this fabulous modern orange and aqua nursery designed by a Massachusetts mom. Who can resist being pulled into this cheerful room? Baby may never want to come out! Mom tells us, “I didn’t do a particular theme. I just wanted to focus on the color scheme of  turquoise/blue and orange. That’s why I loved the owl tree decal – because the owls were blue and orange.” We’re so honored to be a part of this mom’s fabulous nursery and so glad she was willing to share her decorating secrets.

She tells weeDECOR, “The room was already painted and ready to go a year ago when we moved in. It’s a minty green. We purchased the crib 5 years ago (Nurseryworks) as it was originally my daughter’s. The bureau came from IKEA. I made the two hanging owl pictures out of heavy paper stock and framed them. We purchased the bedding at Target (Bacati Mod Sports baby bedding) because it contained my color scheme. The accent rug was from Target as well as the orange lamp. The curtains were purchased at Walmart.com. I decided to incorporate both colored window panels on the large window.”

She further explains, “I love how the crib is the focal point in the center of the room. The tree on the wall block contains pictures of my husband, daughter, a 3D picture of the baby and me. Those trees were the centerpieces at my shower (some blue, some orange). The hostess of the shower used the colors of the nursery as the shower theme and wanted to tie in my tree wall decal with real trees as centerpieces. I ordered the paper lanterns to add more pops of color through lunabazaar.com (about $2 each). Overall, it was pretty inexpensive to decorate.”

So modern, so classy, and so cost savvy – we love it! Thanks, mom, for sending in your photos. They make us smile!

We can’t help but smile when we see this yellow baby nursery decorated with our birds in a tree and owl branch wall decals. Sweet and serene is what we see and this Michigan family sees that, too. These parents tell us, “We get so many compliments from everyone who sees the nursery. The weedecor designs are so unique, and they really transformed our nursery from a relatively plain room into a fun, whimsical space!” That makes us smile even more!

Mom and dad wanted baby’s gender to be a surprise. So, they chose a lovely shade of yellow paint – Moon Dance by Behr. To keep with the sweet and serene feel, they went with pine colored baby furniture by Westwood Designs – specifically, Cypress Point line in Honey Pine.

The parents knew they wanted wall decals and ordered our birds in a tree wall decal and owls on a branch.  Dad tells us, “I was so impressed by the quality of the decals. The material is durable and bounced back even when I accidentally pinched a corner here or there. The texture even seems to blend with the grain of the nursery walls: several people who walked into the nursery asked if we had painted on the designs! The tree was fun to assemble. It comes in several pieces to make it easy to apply, and you can’t see any seams once it is on the wall. When I saw all the leaves, I thought it might be difficult to get the pattern to come out ‘correctly’ (not being particularly artistic myself), but it is designed to make any arrangement come out nicely without much effort at all. My wife and I had a lot of fun seeing the design come to life.”

For the finishing touches, these parents chose the double border rectangular rug in Antique Linen, from JC Penney, Clouds & Stars sheets in cream, and Tiddliwinks Cozy Dot Blue Dust Ruffle. Finally they hung an oh-so-cute frog wall canvas they found while vacationing in Santa Fe, NM and placed a sweet owl statue on a shelf in a corner also found in an art gallery in Santa Fe.

Thanks, mom and dad, for sending in your photos!
