<p>Let’s be honest.  To most of us, <strong>black and white nursery décor </strong>feels…uncomfortable.  For a lifetime, we have been trained by designers, retailers, and our own families that colors are the most appropriate way to decorate a nursery.  Explaining that <strong>black and white nursery décor</strong> is great for a gender neutral nursery or noting that babies can only see black and white their first few months anyway will not get you bonus points with your mother-in-law.  When you tell her of your decorating plans, she will likely still look at you funny.  </p>
<p>But, once you get over the odd looks and the initial uncertainty, black and white décor can be an exciting and fulfilling exploration of “color”.</p>
<p>One way to get over the hump is to think about black and white nursery décor as neutral color that can be brought to life with patterns, texture, and design.  For example, romantic <a title="toile nursery bedding" href="http://weedecor.com/2009/11/tweet-nursery-toile-them/" target="_blank"><strong>toile</strong></a> and damask baby bedding patterns can bring softness to a baby room with a black and white color palette. A white shag rug can bring cozy texture to your nursery.  And, nursery-friendly designs like black and white <a title="turtle wall decals" href="http://www.weegallery.com/wallgraphics.html" target="_blank"><strong>turtle wall decals</strong></a>, <a title="black and white wall art for a baby nursery" href="http://www.babyearth.com/green-frog-art-flower-power-framed-print-black-reverse.html" target="_blank"><strong>floral wall art</strong></a>, or <a title="black and white asian themed nursery decor" href="http://weedecor.com/2010/01/asian-inspired-nursery-decor/" target="_blank"><strong>China doll toile baby bedding</strong></a> can bring character to the room.</p>
<p>Another way is to actually use black and white as a neutralizer for color. In this nursery above, <a title="nursery wall decor" href="http://www.poshtots.com" target="_blank"><strong>Posh Tots</strong></a> features gorgeous <a title="black and white nursery bedding" href="http://www.poshtots.com/Designer-Rooms/Nurseries-for-Either/Monochrome-Flourish/Flourish-Baby-Bedding/13/2583/2955/14712/PoshProductDetail.aspx" target="_blank"><strong>black and white crib bedding</strong></a> against a bright, turquoise-like blue wall.  Achieve a similar look with pale pink (as in this <a title="black and white damask nursery decor" href="http://weedecor.com/2009/10/damask-nursery-kids/" target="_blank"><strong>damask bedding set</strong></a> from Doodlefish), pale blue, or other traditional nursery wall paint colors. </p>
<p>And, if you would like a touch of a black and white nursery theme, consider black and white seating like the <a title="black and white glider" href="http://www.luxurylamb.com/detail.asp?CategoryID=411&amp;itemid=17393&amp;tracking=fglel&amp;refsite=5&amp;utm_source=fglel&amp;utm_medium=fr&amp;utm_campaign=datafeed" target="_blank"><strong>Ophelia glider</strong></a> featured above or this stylish <a title="black and white storage seating for kids" href="http://weedecor.com/2010/01/kids-storage-solutions/" target="_blank"><strong>black and white child’s seating/storage piece</strong></a> accented with a throw pillow or blanket in the primary color of the rest of your nursery.</p>
