Using Modern Day Inspiration Boards to Design a Unique Nursery
Inspiration boards are a great way to get started decorating your nursery or kid's room. Interior designers use them all the time to pull together rooms. But, you don't have to be an interior designer to use them. And, they can be very helpful as you organize your thoughts around baby furniture, colors, wall decor, window coverings, and other nursery accessories.
The old-fashioned way of pulling together inspiration boards was to cut out magazine or catalog photos and manually arrange them on a board. Polyvore is a site that allows you to do that digitally. You can pull together your own modern day inspiration board by clipping online images from your favorite sites.
And, their community is so creative! Hence, the inspiration board above. The bright aqua and white color theme using sage green to bring depth is lovely. The floral "wallpaper" is actually a Pottery Barn Teens rug that is being used as wall decor. But, if you like the look you need not despair. You can recreate it by using floral wall stickers or wall stencils in similar colors.
We like the stuffed animals on the shelves which is not hard to recreate. Decorate with a selection of similarly sized animals of all different kinds (penguins, bears, puppies) to keep clean lines with visual interest. Or, choose one animal - popular ones in nursery decorating today are elephants, giraffes, monkeys, and butterflies - and buy them in multiple shapes and colors to achieve a unique look.
The items in the inspiration board come from retailers all over including Pottery Barn Teens, Build-a-Bear, and Toys R Us. Head over to Polyvore to see more on each particular item or other inspiring kid's room decorating ideas.
