My niece has asked for a mirror for Christmas. When we asked her why she said, "So it can tell me if I am pretty!" Ah, Disney princesses - such a love-hate relationship we have with you!
On a more practical note, using mirror wall decor to decorate a room adds both function and beauty. Mirrors are a great way to make a small room seem bigger. The mirror's reflection gives the illusion of more space and the light bounces off the mirror to brighten the room.
Because kids' rooms tend to be small, mirrors help quite a bit. And, there's the added bonus that they are just plain fun for kids!
We did a little sleuthing and found that PBTeens has expanded their mirror wall decor collection this past year giving us many more creative ways to decorate with mirrors.
A few of our favorites include these butterfly mirrors made of acrylic (read: shatter-proof) that have a self-adhesive backing used in decorating the girl's room above. We love how they have created a mirrored wall border with these cute little butterflies. We also love the price ($19 for a set of 20)!
They have a stunning wall flower mirror that can be used as a focal point for your room given its size (30 inches by 18.5 inches). Note that this is actually a mirror and is not shatter-proof like the butterfly mirrors. We particularly like the way the mirrors overlap to create a multi-dimensional wall piece.
Finally, they have mirrored wall letters for personalizing a kid's room by spelling his or her name or monogram. Each letter is approimately 18 inches wide by 30 inches high so plan accordingly. Namely, if your child has a long name, this could be too big to spell out a name.
PBTeens has other designs such as hearts, polka dots, and other floral designs.
So, while we may still consider a mirror as a gift for my niece, we have explicitly told her that she doesn't need a mirror to tell her whether she's pretty. She already is.
