DIY Nursery Decorating Ideas for Crafty & Not-So-Crafty Moms
Here's another idea for our crafty moms - Spoonflower! What is Spoonflower you ask? Aside from being a perennial native to southwest North America, Spoonflower is a fabulous design and print your own fabric website where you can find one-of-a-kind fabrics to create your own nursery decor.
Even if you are not a fabric designer, you can still take advantage of Spoonflower. Many of the fabrics are available through Spoonflower's beta marketplace and many of the designers sell their fabrics by the yard on etsy. The fabrics come in various weights and styles for the DIY home decorator. Spoonflower upholstery weight is appropriate for baby room gliders, chairs, and sit stools. They also come in quilting weight for quilts and appliques for baby or kids bedding and wall decor. And, they come in organic cotton sateen for throw pillows and the eco-conscious mom. Finally, they have a bamboo cotton rayon also appropriate for bedding.
Even better, you can order swatches of the material to test the color and fabric weight for your DIY nursery project.
So, once you find a fabric you love, what to do with it? Those of you with a sewing machine probably do not lack for DIY ideas. For those moms who aren't quite as crafty, you can purchase the fabric and have your local seamstress sew curtains, pillow shams, duvet covers, and more. Or, find a glider you like and an upholstery fabric and find a local upholsterer to recover the glider.
Finally, consider designing wall hangings by wrapping the fabric around gallery style frames to create one-of-a-kind nursery wall decor. Create wall collages with circle, square, and other geometric shaped frames
