Ms. Nielson got the inspiration for Coyuchi while working on a community development project in Oaxaca, Mexico. She was taken by the beauty and quality of the local, hand-woven cotton textiles, made from Coyuchi, a word derived from ancient Aztec and used to describe natural brown cotton. The company's first product line was made from the colored cotton from Coyuchi.
