As we come to the end of 2009, we can't help but reflect on the year and the fun we've had finding the freshest ideas in nursery decor.  We appreciate you following us along that journey and would like to share with you the five most popular nursery decorating ideas and trends we saw this year. 5) Elephants - Elephants were huge in 2009.  We featured elephant wall decals from Giggle, elephant throw pillows from bohemian nursery designer Rikshaw Designs, and elephant themed nurseries from designers like Carter's and Dwell.  Elephants were popular as stand alone decor or as part of a jungle or safari themed room.  We think their popularity will continue in 2010 as they are practically a classic now when it comes to baby or kids room decorating. 4) Tree Wall Decals - Our tree wall decal articles were some of our most read articles of the year.  This tree wall decal by ModBaby on Rate My Space popped on this gorgeous Tiffany-colored paint.  It generated many oohs and ahs as did this modern tree wall decal with bluebirds, this tree wall decal-like design from Pottery Barn Kids, and this cherry blossom tree wall decal.  Given the trend towards organics and long-term environmental sustainability, we think trees will continue to permeate nursery decor. 3) Lavender - Lavender was the new pink in girl's room decorating this year and this was reflected across the board in paint, bedding, wall decor, and nursery accessories.  Cookie magazine named this lavender painted nursery one of its top of the year. This lavender bedding set and wall decor from Cuddle Kids Bedding Boutique was applauded for its creativity. And, we saw lavender in kid's wallpaper, butterfly wall accents, and wall paint. 2) Damask - Damask was a nice addition in 2009.  Damask has made a comeback in home decor in recent years and it has spilled over into kid's room decorating, Reserved for girl's decor, damask prints for girls' rooms come from great designers in gorgeous color combinations like black and white damask,  chocolate, sage and white damask, and pretty pink and white damask.  1) Owls - Perhaps the most surprising nursery decor trend in 2009 was owl themed nursery decor.  Owls never struck as a particularly cute animal with which to decorate.  But, textile designers, artists, and stylists have proved us wrong giving owls the friendly face we love in children's room decor.  We primarily saw the trend in owl wall decor such as cute personalized owl wall art from Name Your Design and owl wall stickers from etsy designer Leen the Graphics Queen.  There were also owl themed kids rooms and many nature themed rooms that used owls.
