We love sailboats when decorating a little boy’s nursery because of their versatility and longevity. You can use sailboats to create a nautical themed nursery that is hip and modern, classic and traditional, or vintage and antique. Go all out with boat themed baby bedding, rugs, and window treatments. Or, keep it simple with a few decorative accents like boat wall canvases or sailboat wall decals.
And, better yet, a nautical themed nursery is primed to be painted in beautiful blues – a color for which we have not been shy about expressing our preference as a primary decorating color for a baby’s room.
There are some great bedding choices out there like this “High Seas” sailboat crib bedding from Whistle and Wink. Using hand quilting to create classic-looking, illustrated sailboats and a soft blue and white color palette, this soothing bedding set will send your baby boy happily to dreamland.
For much looser wallets, this “Set Sail” boat baby bedding from PoshTots is gorgeous. The bedding is made with 100% Swiss cotton seersucker featuring soft blue stripes in shades from light blue to navy incorporating a modern shade of aqua. The Seersucker is paired with pique in white that is embellished with boat themed embroidery. The blue and white alternating boats line the edge of the hem of the crib skirt.
If you would like a bit more versatility, try our sailboat wall decals which can be personalized with your baby’s name. Use our boat wall decals to decorate above a changing table or another area of your baby nursery that needs a touch of detail. They come in navy blue/pale blue, navy blue/white, and medium blue/white as shown above. All would look lovely in a blue painted boy's room.
Finally, these precious sailboat drawer knobs will add the finishing touches to your baby's room.
A nautical theme can grow with your baby though the toddler years. With regard to color, stick with light blues, whites, and yellows in the baby years for that cozy nursery feel. Then, bring in some darker blues and reds to make the theme feel age appropriate for your tot a few years down the line. You can also move into ocean themed décor by embellishing with fish and other under the sea creatures.
