Never a dull moment in interior design, see weeDECOR's picks for the top nursery decorating trends of 2010.
1) Aqua – Chosen as Pantone’s 2010 color of the year (it was actually turquoise, but close enough), we saw aqua become a popular choice in wall paint, baby bedding, and our nursery wall decals. Cotton Monkey, Spunky Sprout, and new on the scene, Olio, all introduced pretty and stylish aqua baby bedding. Baby room interior designers and moms designed gorgeous aqua vintage nurseries, modern aqua baby nurseries, Asian-inspired baby nurseries with aqua and more.
2) Drop side cribs, NOT – Though it came late in the year, it was expected and the downward trend was obvious. The Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the sale and manufacture of the popular drop-side crib on Dec. 17 which will go into effect in June 2011. Look for new crib styles in 2011, particularly focused on helping petite moms get baby out of his crib.
3) Monkeys – A classic nursery motif that seemed to have taken on a new life. Our popular hanging monkey wall decals delighted moms across the country as they hung monkeys in their monkey themed nurseries. We saw the motif come alive in gorgeous new colors like this cobalt blue monkey crib bedding set from Target and in innovative formats like this 3D monkey-themed nursery mirror
4) Wall decals – Maybe we are biased, but wall decals grew tremendously in 2010 in popularity and style options as well. We launched our line of nursery wall decals and saw best sellers like our tree wall decal, owl wall decals, bird wall decals, monkey wall decals, and elephant wall decals sell like hotcakes. Etsy, another popular vendor for wall decals also saw tremendous growth.
5) Creative storage solutions – No need to go with the boring hamper, nursery storage solutions have become hip. In 2010, we saw the availability of chic nursery storage options skyrocket. We saw new sizes and styles from Dwell Studio, Restoration Hardware Baby & Child, and Land of Nod. Solutions ranged from fabric bins in fun patterns and colors, wicker baskets in animal shapes, and more. We found fun animal themed nursery storage bins made of fabric from 3 Sprouts, stylish nursery storage bags with owls and polka dots from Etsy Seller and decadently pretty woven wicker storage baskets from Serena & Lily.
